We gave you the first look at Deepika Padukone’s new movie Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey and now it’s time to check out a new still from the drama co-starring Abhishek Bachchan.

Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, Deepika Padukone’s new movie Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey is based on Manini Chatterjee’s book Do and Die. The movie that has been described as a period thriller co-stars Bollywood big shot Abhihsek Bachchan and it was filmed in Goa. Sohail Sen is responsible for the movie’s music and the lyrics are written by Javed Akhtar.

Abhishek plays freedom fighter Masterda Surya Sen, a man who alongside an army of only 65 men won a battle against the sophisticated British army in Chittagong and declared independence on April 18, 1930. A few days after his first victory, Masterda Surya Sen and his men fight against more than a thousand British soldiers in Jalalabad, and although both sides suffer losses, Surya Sen’s men triumph yet again. They manage to escape but about a year later, Surya Sen was captured by the British army and hanged in 1934.

Deepika plays a Bengali woman named Kalpana Datta who against all odds participate in the freedom movement and fight for her country alongside all the brave men of Masterda Surya Sen’s army. “I fight with men and I manufacture bombs. All this in the 1930s. It can’t get any more exciting,” Dips told reporters about her role. B-town actress Asin was slated for the part at first, but she decided to leave the film and was quickly replaced by Deepika.

And director Ashutosh Gowariker was happy with the choice as he told reporters “Deepika plays Kalpana Datta, one of my favorite characters in the movie. It showcases the grit and determination of the women of that time, when they were not allowed to participate in the freedom movement. But she braved the odds and took the gun in her hands to fight for the country.” And Dips took her role seriously as stylist Neeta Lulla was called in to get the right look, while a Bengali draper helped the actress dress in the traditional saree.
